Sing To The Lord A New Song

Janice Finn | Sunday 17 Oct 2021

“Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day.” (Psalm 96 verses 1 -2)

Paul and I had a marvellous experience whilst shopping in Haskins Garden Centre last week. We heard beautiful chirping and bold melodic bird notes emanating from just above our heads, and when we looked up, there was a lovely red-breasted robin, sitting on a plant advertising board, singing loudly and lustily!

This delightful bird was answering the tuneful chirping of another robin also sitting just a few metres away on another board. Both birds appeared to be very tame and were not alarmed or disturbed by our snapping photos from a
short distance away. It seemed to us that these colourful birds were creating their own song of joy and happiness in being alive!

The Psalmist exhorts us to sing our own song to the Lord, because in doing so, we are praising Him for who He is and for all that He has done for us. Praising Jesus encourages us to remember our salvation and how He has changed our
lives and given us eternal life.

Singing our own song to the Lord each day helps us to get things in proper perspective when life throws up its challenges at us. It causes us to be thankful for the new life He has given to each of us, and so, just like those precious little robins, begin your day with a new song to the Lord… I can promise you that your day will be much the better for it!
